Four Roses Small Batch Workshop
John Coffee reflects on the 2nd annual Four Roses Small Batch Workshop in partnership with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, giving teams a challenge to create their own unique blend combining each available recipe.

This was the second year for our Four Roses (Barrel Strength) Small Batch Workshop, and man was it a blast! We raised over $4000 for Cystic Fibrosis in partnership with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Kentucky chapter. We had 50 members show up for the private event hosted at Base110, and it featured special guests Brent Elliott and Al Young, along with Al's wife, Gretchen.
I was absolutely humbled to be the emcee and an organizer for such a cool event. To set the stage, four teams competed to mingle and concoct their best small batch for four judges sitting on the tasting panel. The winner took home the title of "Best Small Batch" as well as a private tour for two at Four Roses distillery.

Another highlight event of the evening definitely had to be the 2001 bottle of Four Roses from Spain. As an 8-year, 86 proof single barrel, it called back to an earlier time in our bourbon history, and even Brent had not tried this make from the 90’s. So truly, to taste a single pour was a real treat.

In my opinion, this is what it is all about to be a member of Lexington Bourbon Society. Each pour was fantastic, and our attendees were excited to celebrate America’s Native spirit for a good cause. On top of that, our partners from the distillery were able to show up and have fun alongside the group, truly appreciating what we do for the world. You just cannot beat that kind of love in a room!
