Social Sipper @ Henry Clay's Public House

On Wednesday, February 13th, we invite you to our next Lexington Bourbon Society Social Sipper destination. On our next stop, we will take a trip into the heart of downtown Lexington for a good sip with a historic view at Henry Clay’s Public House!

Henry Clay did much for the evolution of bourbon, and even once walked the halls of the building as he helped shaped the legislation that made bourbon what it is today. Since then, Henry Clay Public House has kept the spirit of bourbon alive, boasting an impressive bourbon selection, live music, wonderful cocktails, and an inviting atmosphere. And we’ll share a little secret; it’s also of the few bars downtown that even often offers live music for free! For our gathering, you can expect cocktail specials, discounted high end bourbon pours, and great company with some of the most enthusiastic bourbon fans in the city. So why not come out and have a drink with us? What better way to warm up after a hard day of work?!

Interested in the Lexington Bourbon Society? Do you enjoy social networking in Lexington, opportunities to promote local charities and consider yourself a “bourbon enthusiast”? If you said yes to any of these questions, we would love to meet you! Our Social Sippers are always free to attend even if you aren’t a member, and it’s a great way to learn more about the Lexington Bourbon Society and how to join. Feel free to bring a friend along, stop by and say hi and see what it’s all about. We look forward to seeing you there!

Cheers,

Lexington Bourbon Society

MEMBERS ONLY EVENT!

Bourbon Thru Bluegrass: An All Sensory Historical Live Music Performance Piece
Featuring Bernie Lubbers (from Heaven Hill) and Hickory Vaught

SWEETHEARTS WELCOME!

DETAILS TO COME REGARDING EVENT COST (it’ll be inexpensive) AND MORE. RESERVE THE DATE and plan to join us for this unique experience!

Close your eyes and picture a Ken Burns documentary on the history of bourbon; brought to life with live Bluegrass music performed throughout. Throughout the performance, you will actually experience the evolution of bourbon by tasting un-aged corn whiskey folks were drinking starting back in the 1700’s; aged corn whiskeys like in the early 1800’s, wheat whiskey like in the 1850’s, Bottled In Bond whiskey from the early 1900’s, and then the small batch bourbons that brought the bourbon category back in 2010, and you have “Bourbon Thru Bluegrass”.

Performed by the leading folks in bourbon and in Bluegrass music, this 60 minute self-contained performance stimulates all the senses. You will see, hear, smell, feel, and taste the history of the native spirit of the United States; literally drinking in the history of Kentucky’s fine spirit through its music!

In BTB you’ll hear the old time music from Hickory and Bernie that match the timelines on the evolution of bourbon. They will play and sing Bluegrass tunes that match the history and/or the subject of that particular time period. Songs from Bill Monroe, Grandpa Jones, Merle Travis, Doc Watson, along with their own originals. Since the show isn’t 100% scripted, you just never know what’s coming next!

Bernie Lubbers is the global whiskey ambassador for Heaven Hill Distillery in Bardstown, KY and is known as the Whiskey Professor. A two time recipient of the Icons of Whisky – Ambassador of the Year Award from Whisky Magazine out of London for 2009 and 2016. He is also the author of the best selling bourbon book, “Bourbon Whiskey – Our Native Spirit” and host of the popular website; Whiskey Professor.

Hickory Vaught was dubbed “The Bluegrass Music Ambassador of
Kentucky” by the Governor of Kentucky, himself! Hickory is an accomplished Bluegrass performer, and started at a young age in a family of Bluegrass pickers.
