Art & Bourbon Bottle Share @ The Parachute Factory
Oct 17 @ 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm
Art & Bourbon Bottle Share @ The Parachute Factory
LBS Member Mark Williams is an artist whose work is featured in several exhibits across the United States. Come support Mark’s exhibit at The Parachute Factory, and mingle with your LBS family at this BYOB Happy Hour event. LBS will have a few club bottles on hand, and you can bring a bottle to share (bourbon, wine, beer, water, whatever bottle you like). Light munchies will be provided. If you cannot make the 17th, Mark’s exhibit is on display October 4th-25th, so please stop in another time to check it out. PARKING: Street parking is available on Bryan, N Limestone and Loudon. Parking is also available in the Kentucky for Kentucky lot. ENTRANCE TO THE GALLERY: The front door faces N Limestone and has a Cloud Mural above the door. ABOUT THE WORK: Mark Williams’s work is based on cave interiors, especially the formations of flowstones, stalactites, and stalagmites. During the past 18 years, he has visited nearly 100 caves and photographed the settings. The artwork is inspired by these images. Nostalgia is often referenced in the use of decades old fabrics for the base of paintings. This reference to the past is then partially hidden by layers of screen printed and hand painted images. The layering suggests the passage of time and accumulated memories. Repeated imagery becomes a rhythmic pattern that suggests that one is looking at something that is part of a larger, unseen whole. Mark’s artwork alludes to the fact that we are all part of a larger realm measured in geologic time. He has given several public talks about his work and has taught over fifty art classes at various colleges and universities. His work has been written about in many publications and has been included in over 100 exhibitions at venues including the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, Real Art Ways in Hartford, Housatonic Museum of Art in Bridgeport, Miller Gallery in Cincinnati, the International Print Center of New York, Project 4 in Washington DC, and Shoshana Wayne Gallery in Santa Monica, CA. Mark’s work is in several public and private collections including The LeWitt Collection, The Wadsworth Atheneum, Yale University’s Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library, and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

According to lore, there are more spirits residing at the Distillery than those aging in the warehouses. Featured on the popular TV show “Ghost Hunters,®” Buffalo Trace Distillery has long been rumored to have visits from the supernatural, most notably the ghost of Col. Blanton. Hear the legendary stories and get a look into the more haunted sites, including the rarely visited Stony Point Mansion where Col. Blanton died in 1959. All tours are complimentary and include a tasting of some of our award-winning products.

Four Roses Small Batch Challenge: Supporting the ALS Association - Members Only

MEMBERS ONLY!

Four Roses Master Distiller Brent Elliott and Senior Ambassador Al Young will join us again to raise funds this year for the ALS Association.

Details:
– All 10 single barrel, barrel strength expressions will be provided.
– There will be 4 teams of two (1 getting an additional teammate).
– Each team receives 4 ounces from each single barrel expression.
– Teams have 44 minutes to create their own small batch entry using a minimum of 3 of the 10 recipes.
– Four judges will blind taste each entry, each ranking them 1-4, and determining a winner using a point system (each 1st place vote = 4 points, 2nd = 3 points, etc., with most points winning).

Team Selection:
An online auction is live now and will end Sunday, November 3rd at 3:00 p.m. The highest bidder at that time will name their teammate as well as win a third teammate…Four Roses Master Distiller Brent Elliott! The next three highest bidders will secure a team and will name a teammate.

Non-participating attendees will enjoy a Four Roses cocktail and pours of Single Barrel, Small Batch, and Select while teams are creating their entry for judges scoring.

After judging, but prior to learning the winner, each team will present their small batch recipe and rationale for selecting those amounts of those recipes.

After the winning recipe is revealed, all present will share in sampling the entries and remaining single barrels.

Light hors d’oeuvres will be served. Cost is $10 per non-drinking spectator, and $25 per drinking spectator.

The live and silent auction items will be announced over the next couple weeks.

A truly great night for a truly great cause!
